Ingredients for the filling:
- 2 cups sugar
- 1 1/2 cup water
- 2 sticks butter
- 12 oz finely ground walnuts
- Rozen phyllo dough
- 4 oz chocolate (optional)
Instructions:
- Mix water and sugar and bring to boil. Once the syrup is boiling, leave it boiling for 4-5 mins stirring frequently.
- Remove from the heat, add 2 sticks of butter (cut them in quarters so they melt easy) and melt the butter completely. Add the chocolate too if you decide to use it. It’s optional.
- At the end, add the walnuts and mix until well blended. Put the mix aside for 30 mins.
- Use this type of dough. You can find it at the following sites, here and here.
- Use some sewing thread to split the dough if it is stuck.
- Add about 7-8 tablespoons of the filling on each dough. There are 8 pieces and 7 pieces to spread.
- Spread around but don’t go all the way close to the edges. Leave about 1/4″.
- Spread the filling on 7 dough pieces and put the last one on top. Put some heavy stuff on top so they stick better. Keep it for 2 hours.
Ingredients for the glaze:
- 1 1/2 cups powdered sugar
- 4-5 Tbsp water with food coloring or some red, purple grape juice
Instructions:
- Mix the sugar and 1-2 Tbsp of the liquid. Use a tablespoon for mixing.
- Add another tablespoon of the liquid and mix until you get a glaze that looks like this.
- Spread the glaze over the last piece and once finished leave it in a fridge overnight. Cut in pieces after.
